The slots
| Slot | What goes there | Demo note |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Main-hand weapon | Weapon category drives the mastery track and combo list. |
| Head | Helmet or hat | Adventurer, Apprentice, and Ranger pieces appear in the demo table. |
| Chest | Body armour | The main defence slot in the demo table. |
| Legs | Greaves, trousers, leggings | Light, medium, and heavy versions exist. |
| Cloak | Back layer | The Cotton Cape is the demo example. |
| Belt | Belt | Its own slot; the Rustic Belt is the demo example. |
| Bag | Bag / backpack | Bags can roll bonus lines like any other item. |
Armour weight is a real trade
The demo table shows three armour weights. Heavy pieces carry the highest defence values, light pieces the lowest, and medium sits between. That does not make heavy strictly better: defence is only useful if you survive the fights your movement allows you to take. A light build that avoids the hit is not “wrong” because its number is smaller.
Quality and bonus lines
When gear drops or is crafted, it rolls a quality. Higher quality means more random bonuses from that item’s bonus list and a higher value. The item’s bonus list is specific to the item, so the same base armour can produce different usable rolls.
- Read the slot and weight A great roll on the wrong weight for your movement plan is still a bad equip.
- Read the base line Defence or damage. This is the floor the item provides regardless of rolls.
- Read every bonus line Compare the lines you will actually use, not the ones that look rare.
- Check the bag If the item is a bag, the bonus lines affect your build as well as your storage.
- Sell or stash the loser Do not carry two copies of the same slot “just in case”. The next drop is one dungeon room away.
The bag slot is the sleeper upgrade
Most ARPGs treat inventory as a menu. Emberville gives the bag its own equipment slot and lets the bag carry its own bonuses. That means a bag can be a legitimate build upgrade, not just a quality-of-life purchase. When you find a Large Bag, inspect it before you assume it is only storage.
What to keep, what to sell
- Keep the best bonus-line version of each slot you actually wear.
- Keep one bag upgrade until you find a better roll.
- Sell low-quality duplicates and off-weight pieces you will not test.
- Keep crafting materials; they are not vendor trash in a game with town upgrades.
- Do not hoard for a build you cannot play yet. Classes and balance will move.
Questions from this guide
How many equipment slots does Emberville have?
The demo build shows weapon, head, chest, legs, cloak, belt, and bag slots. More slots may be added or revealed before launch.
Can bags have stats in Emberville?
Yes. The bag occupies its own slot and can roll bonus lines like other gear. A bag upgrade can change both inventory capacity and your build.
What does item quality do?
Quality is rolled on drops and crafts. Higher quality adds more lines from the item’s bonus list and increases its value.
